2001 Ford Explorer

Reader Question: Hey,

I am sorry about your time but I would appreciate a little info. My 2001 Ford Explorer is having a problem with idle check engine light off and on, same as idle problem odb2 scanner reads no data. I have tried different scanners and it is same problem. It will not let me check computer for diagnostic problems figured air fuel motor but since I cannot read vehicle do not know.

Do you have any clue as to culprit?

Any advice would be a help.

Thank you,

Rickey

Hey Rickey,

Usually a dirty throttle body and idle control motor and MAF – Mass Air Flow sensor will cause erratic idle and dying at idle or slow speeds. I would clean the throttle body and idle control motor with a can of intake cleaner or use gasoline and a toothbrush and see what happens.

If you have an MAF sensor, you can clean it as well. But if you do not know what you are doing, you can damage it. Your local mechanic or fast lube place should be able to do these items for you simply and cheaply if you are unsure about doing it yourself.

Blessings,
Austin Davis
