Reader Question Hello there, I have a 2000 Ford Taurus, check engine light on. I have checked data link codes and an getting codes "po171 and po174 system too lean bank 1 and bank 2". Is it time for a fuel pump? or how do I tell if its the pump or one of the sensors? thanks for your time.
Doug
Hey there Doug
You really have to probe deeper and start testing sensors and fuel pressure etc. etc. to be for sure. This could be something as simple as a dirty throttle body or worn spark plugs and plug wires. I would start looking at the easy stuff first…..plugs, wires and inspecting the throttle body to see if it needs cleaning and go from there. If you have the original wires and plugs and they have more than 60K miles on them...they are probably due for a change.
