Does Intake Spacer Plate Increase Engine Performance?

I have a Ford F-150 2004 with a 5.4L V8. Is it worth to use a throttle body spacer to improve the performance? I already have a KN cool air intake on it, but I keep reading on the extra performance for the money that you get with a spacer. Also, if doing it, does the brand matter Airraid has one for $105, TransDapt and Summitracing have one for less than $50 or any reputable brand and the right model for the engine is all that is needed?

Ford Mustang Starter Motor is Slow to Turn Over to Start Engine

I have a 1991 Mustang with a 302. As of late, the car has been hard to crank over (the starter is very slow to spin but the car still cranks over) . The battery is only 6 months old and I replaced both battery cables. Just the other day I found the car to be completely dead. The battery voltage only read 7.5 Volts with a multimeter. I took the battery in for service and the retailer charged the battery and said it checked out fine. After reinstalling the battery the car started fine. One day later, I found the battery to be low again. I jump started the car and drove it around. I checked voltage when the car was running it read 11.7 VDC. With the car running and all accessories turned off, I disconnected the negative battery cable to see if the car would continue to run on the alternator; the car immediately died. I suspect the 120K miles have taken a toll on the starter, but now I also believe I have a problem with a voltage regulator and/or alternator. Any words of advice?

Oldsmobile Intrigue – Vibration is a Bad Tire or Bad Strut?

I have a 1998 Olds Intrigue. I put new tires on it about 6-7 Months ago. After having my tires rotated recently I started having a vibration from the front left wheel area. I put new brake pads and rotors on the front end but that did not help. I finally figured out that I had high-low spots all the way around the inside edge of the tire. I went back to where I got the tires and they replaced the tire and that solved the problem. They said that I most likely have a strut going bad on the rear of the car since that is where the problem actually occurred and then was transferred to the front when I had the tires rotated. I talked to a mechanic that told me that sounds like it was just a bad tire. Will a bad strut cause this problem, or did I just have a bad tire?

1990 Mercury Grand Marquis Engine Miss and Runs Bad

Howdy Austin, I seem to have a real problem on my hands, and not a clue what is causing it. I have a 1990 Mercury, Grand Marquis that has an engine tick for the first 2 to 3 seconds after it is started up. The car has about 150,000 miles on it. But the real problem I have is, the car runs great for about 5 miles when it is cold. After that the car has a severe miss but only in drive or overdrive. When it misses it causes a severe jerk inside for passengers. When I start out in first then second gear it runs fine but shortly after going into drive it starts missing and jerking the car. If I mash the accelerator to the floor and go into passing gear it will quit missing. When back in drive or O/D if the load on the engine is kept light, (as in just maintaining speed) the missing will back off. This is not an old problem,it just started about 2 weeks ago. Also the exhaust donut is leaking. It started leaking about 1 1/2 months ago and been getting worse. I was going to change it when I put it up on the rack for its oil change. Could this cause a lack of back pressure and make it miss like this? I had heard that lack of back pressure could cause this but sounds like a fairy tale to me. Please put me back on the right track. Thank you very much for any answer.

Chevy Trailblazer Has Check Engine Light On – Code PO442

We have had the very same problem as Amanda, in one of your other postings. We have a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer with 60,000 or so miles. The check engine light came on. We hooked up an analyzer on our own and it gave us a reading of P0442 that indicated that it was emission control small leak. We changed our fuel cap and fuel filter. Several days later the check engine light came on again. Guarantee is out and would like to do the job ourselves.

1992 Chevy 1500 Pick Up Automatic Transmission Problem

I have a 1992 Chevy C1500 2wd with a 4.3 liter V6 (Automatic). I recently (6 weeks ago) had my Transmission replaced. 5 weeks later the truck would not go in Reverse and it seemed as if it was in a higher gear when I started after stopping. I took it back to the mechanic and he looked at it and told me there was a piece of dirt in the transmission that jammed it up and would not allow it to go into reverse and also made it stick in 3rd gear. He said he fixed the problem. 1 week later the truck is now doing the exact same thing again and the mechanic refuses to do anymore work to the transmission. My problem is that I don’t know if his diagnostic of the problem was correct or if I have a different problem. (FYI When the truck is put down into 1st or 2nd if will run in those gears and when put into reverse the drive shaft does not look to be engaging). Can you offer any insight as to what the problem may be?

4X4 Jeep Cherokee Noise In Front End – and Tires Are New

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee 4X4. It has 107K in it. Ever since it passed the 80K mark, it has developed a hum in the front end that has gotten worse and worse over time. I recently had 4 new tires put on and I had the u-joints replaced in the front end when they put the tires on. It improved the noise slightly but obviously that wasn’t the problem. Any suggestions on what I should try next? thanks

VW Jetta Won’t Start Sometimes – Engine Will Turn Over Though

Thanks for your time – I have a 2001 VW Jetta that is having a intermittent starting problems. I have taken it to the dealer & they cannot duplicate the problem. Sometimes the car starts, however recently the car will turn-over but not start. The dealer checked the charging systems & they appear to be fine. I notice when you unlock & open the doors there is a small motor sound. Could the starting have something to do with this motor? I noticed that if the motor does not sound the car will not start?? Thanks in advance Jeff

2006 Mini Cooper Convertible Review – Picture – Price

How could life get much better? I drive a 2006 Mini Convertible. Nope, did not get the “S”, this one has more zip than what people realize. My original intention was a having a car that brought back nostalgic moments like that of my high school years and what I got was so much more. Zippi, my name for him, at any given time has had about 6 bolts of fabric, groceries for 30 people, or folding chairs with a folding table. The back seats fold completely down and allow for quite a bit of storage. This surprises many.
