Is a Genuine Toyota Alternator Better Than Auto Zone’s Alternators?
Reader Question
I have a 1993 Toyota corolla. Replaced the alternator 4 years ago (not Toyota alternator). It died again. Toyota tells me that the only alternator that will last is theirs and that any other brand will not work for long. Is this true?
Thank you,
Diane
Hey Diane
I’m going to say NOT true, at least not in my opinion. A weak or bad battery is the main cause or premature alternator failures, and engine oil leaking into the alternator is the second cause of failure. If the battery is 4 years old ..I would replace it along with the alternator…but it does not have to be a Toyota alternator. If you have an alternator/starter rebuilding shop in your area…I would use them.
Blessings,
Austin Davis
