Plymouth Voyager EGR Valve – What Causes This Code?

Reader Question
EGR Valve code.

Dear Austin,

Thank you for taking the time to read my question. I have a 1993 Plymouth Voyager SE. For about 4 – 5 months I’ve had an ‘EGR Valve’ code coming up. I have changed the EGR valve, the EGR transducer and checked to see if the transducer is getting power, which it is. My father-in-law said he read something about a hose from the exhaust manifold that brings the gas back to the EGR might be clogged and need cleaning out. Any help on this, would be a big help.

Thanks again

Andrew

Hello there Andrew

Andrew,

Yes, I would make sure that the passages in the manifold are clean of carbon, remove the valve and clean out with compressed air…or chisel out the carbon if there is an obvious restriction. Also, if this valve is vacuum operated….I cant recall off hand if it has a vacuum hose going to it, make sure you DO have vacuum going to the valve.

Last thing, you COULD have a computer problem, computer failures are not as common as sensors and valves etc. etc., but they can occur, and you could have a computer that sees a problem in the EGR circuit…although there is not a problem.

Blessings,

Austin C. Davis
