Nissan Altima Battery Needs Recharging – Alternator Is New

Reader Question Hi Austin I have a 1994 Nissan Altima and my alternator will not keep my battery charged its a new battery also new alternator i have had them both checked and they say they are good but the alternator is not groundiing ive cleaned the wires on everything and its like the alternator is not working could you please lead me in somekind of direction thanks

Hi there

I would FIRST have the electrical system checked ON the car, load test battery, check alternator output, check for a voltage drain etc.

If the alternator IS outputting correctly you might want to make a set of ground wires that will go from the battery to the alternator directly. This just by-passes any possible wiring problem the car might have. You local alternator rebuilding shop might have a set of these already made up….the shop I use does. I only do this on older cars that I don’t want to take the time to track down a wiring issue.

Blessings,
