1996 Ford Taurus Antifreeze Comes Out Overflow Bottle With Engine Off

Reader Question I have a 1996 Ford Taurus 3.0L V6, I just replaced the transmission(it was stuck in 2ND gear) and replaced the thermostat. Every time I turn off the key after driving all my coo lent spills out. People have told me its vapor locked, but i know it will only vapor lock in the weather heat, but its been like 40 degrees high where I live.

Another person told me that my radiator could be clogged? I was wondering if you know what the problem was or if you might have a guess at what it could be. Anything at the moment would be greatly appreciated. please Email me back when you have some free time. THANKS

Levi

Hey there Levi,

I think I would tend to agree about the radiator being clogged. Usually when you get that overspill like you mentioned, it’s because the radiator is full of dirt and calcium deposits which cut off the circulation of coolant in the engine.

There is excess pressure on the cooling system because of this restriction and venting off this pressure when you turn the engine off usually happens in the plastic overflow jug. I would also inspect the radiator cap, or replace it if you have any doubts about it.

Blessings,

Austin Davis
