Ford Mustang Idles Too Fast

Reader Question I have a 1995 ford mustang 3.8L V6. It started idling fast 3000RPM , when the mass air flow sensor was disconnected the idle went to normal, replaced mass air flow sensor problem persists. any ideas??

Thanks Kelli

My first thought would be to listen and look for a vacuum leak under the hood. Maybe at the intake manifold gasket area, in a rubber hose connection, in the fresh air inlet hose that connects to the air cleaner etc. etc. A vacuum leak can cause that type of problem.

Second thing to look at would be to clean (although it says not to, I take it apart and clean it with gasoline and a tooth brush) or replace the idle speed control motor.
