Driving Without Insurance in Georgia

In Georgia if you’re get charged for driving without insurance it’s considered an offense where you are needed to make a court appearance. According to the GA Driver Department of Driver Services (DDS) a if you get convicted for driving without insurance you will have a 60 or 90-day suspension as part of your penalties.

GA law states that anyone who doesn’t adhere to the Georgia insurance requirements for driving of motor vehicles shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be subject to a fine of not less than $200.00 nor more than $1,000.00 or imprisonment for not more than 12 months, or both.

The Georgia code also states that that an a car owner who knowingly drives or authorizes another person to drive a car without insurance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be subject to a fine of not less than $200.00 nor more than $1,000.00 or imprisonment for not more than 12 months, or both.

Depending on how long your car insurance has been expired you may even have your vehicle’s registration revoked in GA too.
