2002 Chevy Truck Engine RPM Drop and Engine Dies Cold

Reader Question Whenever I start my truck (02′ Chevrolet Silverado HD) on a cold day (below 50 degrees) my RPMs drop and the truck acts like it wants to die. What is the cause of this problem?
Thanks,
Clark

Hi Clark,

That problem is not something I am personally aware of living in Houston…we don’t see too many below 50 degree days thank God. I would probably take a look at the throttle body and clean it as needed. Servicing the fuel system…the injectors, throttle body and intake chamber is something that would be first on my “check out” list for this complaint. I would also want to look at the spark plug and plug wire condition and air and fuel filters.

Blessings,

Austin Davis
