Chevrolet Blazer 4 Dr

Reader Question: Good morning,

I drive a Chevrolet Blazer 4 Dr 4×4. Recently fan for heating and cooling the interior has been acting very sporadically. The temperature is, as the gauge says, its just my fan will start sometimes when I start my blazer and sometimes not, sometimes after a indeterminate number of minutes it will start all of a sudden and work for any amount of time, or it won’t start with the vehicle and after sometime it just starts.

It does not matter if I use the fan switch to stop the fan or I use the switch with AC, defog, and vent on it to stop the fan same problems arise.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated as this could easily run into a high repair bill.

Also, does most of the dash have to come out to get behind the switches?

Thank you very much Austin for your time and have a great day.

Craig

Hey Craig,

Thanks for your e-mail.

I think I would inspect the AC blower motor FIRST. I have replaced a few blower motors lately with the same complaint as you describe.

Depending on what year this vehicle is, your blower motor is probably accessible from under the hood and something you can do yourself.

Next time the problem happens, get out and open the hood with the engine on and selector switch in the ON position…lightly tap the blower motor with a block of wood or rubber hammer and see if it starts up. Sometimes a small “love tap” will jump-start a weak blower motor.

You can buy rebuilt blower motors from your local auto supply store relatively cheaply.

Blessings,
Austin Davis
