Buying a Used Lexus GX 470

Reader Question: Hi Austin,

I was reading through your website. It is impressive.

I was wondering if you could guide me to a Lexus Certified Mechanic (or a source of one) whom I can request to accompany me before I buy a used non-certified Lexus GX 470.

I live near the north New Jersey (Jersey City) area.

I apologize for copying on both e-mails, but I could not make up my mind on the category of the question.

Thank you very much for your time.

Regards,

Sourav

Hey Sourav,

I do not personally know of a certified Lexus mechanic in your area or state for that matter. I would recommend you take the vehicle you are interested in purchasing in to the Lexus dealer in your area though. They can look the vehicle over and do a “used vehicle inspection” for you.

It is actually in their best interest to be thorough in their inspection process because they will want you to use them to get the recommended work performed.

I would much rather have a mechanic pick the vehicle to pieces in their inspection than to over look something that will cost me money in the long run. Also, you can negotiate the purchase price with the seller a little better with a quote for needed services coming from a Lexus dealership rather than from “Bill’s garage”.

Here is a great used car checklist you can perform on your own and have the mechanic complete the items you are unsure about.
