Reader Question: Hello,
I have a 2006 Nissan Frontier with a 6-speed manual gearbox. I noticed a while back that when shifting into either second or third gear I hear a whining noise while actually shifting into the gear.
I noticed for example when I pause: (between shifting from first to second gear) and wait for about 2 to 3 seconds with the shifter in neutral, then shift into 2nd I do not hear the friction type whining noise. Could this involve the synchronizer?
It only does this when shifting into second and third, and does not do it when down shifting.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks again.
Clint
Howdy Clint,
Thanks for the e-mail but I am not going to be much assistance to you. I am not really a transmission mechanic, and I am not familiar with the Frontier yet to know if there is an inherent problem with them or any of their quirks.
I would get the dealership to take a test drive with you or visit your local transmission shop and have them take a test drive to hear this noise and give their opinion.
They both should do this free of charge to you.
Blessings,
Austin Davis
