2001 Ford Explorer A/C Not Cold Enough

Reader Question: Hi,

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer and the AC is blowing hot air on the regular setting for AC and vents. The a/c max will blow cold. Checked Freon already and its fine.

Thanks,

Maribeth

Hey Maribeth,

The regular AC setting will suck in OUTSIDE air and try to cool it off. Therefore, if it is HOT outside it will take longer to cool off that “fresh” air and make it cold. Using the “Recirculation” setting will continually recycle the air that is already inside the cab of the vehicle, so the air will be colder but drier.

I live in Houston and NEVER use anything but the max, recirculation setting. The fresh air setting will not get as cold as I like it to be

Blessings,
Austin Davis
