Reader Question Is it kind of soon for my 2000 DTS transmission to be going out? It has 88,400 miles. And auto insurance don’t fix mechanical problems right?

Hey there

I wish auto insurance fixed problems like that. I’ve seen transmission and engine failures the first 5,000 miles. Normally, you like to see a trouble free transmission life span of at least 150,000 miles if not the life of the vehicle but it really depends on how well maintained it has been and how it was driven…like a teenage or a grandma. Sometimes things like worn out spark plug wires can cause an engine miss that feels like transmission problems. Make sure you have a proper diagnosis from a reputable shop!

Blessings,

Austin Davis
