Reader Question: The key in my 1999 Ford Taurus will not turn in the ignition. The steering is not locked, the car is in park.

Can you advise me?

Thanks!

Hey there,

I have replaced many ignition lock cylinders on the Taurus. The lock cylinder is what you put the key in. Sometime they break off inside and will completely turn around in a full circle, or sometimes they will turn normally but not turn far enough to engage the engine to start.

Your local mechanic should be able to repair this for you, or a locksmith or the dealer. There are even some mobile steering column guys in your Yellow pages that will come to you and replace or repair the cylinder.

Blessings,
Austin Davis
