1999 Ford Expedition

Reader Question: I have a 1999 Ford Expedition (Eddie Bauer). When I drive it for lengthy periods, 30 minutes, and then shut it off sometimes, it will not restart for several minutes to a few hours. I have to start it off the solenoid with a screwdriver and then it fires right up.

I take it to the shop and they cannot find anything because they do not run it long enough to recreate the condition.

Do you have any ideas?

Craig

Hey Craig,

It sounds like you have a bad solenoid to me. I would replace the solenoid and see what happens.

If the solenoid is on top of the starter, I would have the whole starter rebuilt and replace it with a rebuilt starter assembly.

Blessings,
Austin Davis
