Reader Question: Hello,

I have a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4-wheel drive. It was driving fine when I went to start it. It turnover fine but would not start.

The fuel pump is not working. I sprayed fuel in it put still will not start. The spark plugs are getting good fire.

Please help. Thanks!

Chris

Hey there Chris,

If the fuel pump is NOT working, you need to check for power and ground at the fuel pump itself first. You can sometimes bang on the bottom of the fuel tank with your fist or a rubber hammer AS someone is cranking over the engine. This can kick-start a weak fuel pump sometimes. If it starts, you need a new pump.

If you do not have power to the pump, you need to check the fuel pump relay and see if there is power to it. GM fuel pumps are notorious failure items, so I would not be surprised if the pump had failed.

Usually the engine will at least start for a second or two with starting fluid as long as there is spark at the spark plugs.

Blessings,
Austin Davis
